When will the inmate go to court after arrested?

First appearances are scheduled through Court Administration. Please contact them for further information.

Once arrested, the inmate has 48 hours to be seen by or have their arrest reviewed by a judge.  This is called their First appearance hearing.  You may attend this hearing, which is held in the Courthouse at 11 am during normal business working days.Whether the inmate goes the day after arrest or the next day will depend on many factors.  You may call prior to 11 am to see if they will be going to court that day. At this time the judge can release them, set bail/bond amount or they may be held in jail. You may also call the Jail at 218-998-8556.

How can I contact an inmate?

You may leave a very short voicemail for the inmate by calling 218-321-0250 and follow the prompts.  We do not take messages for inmates.  Phone calls made by the inmates are collect or they may purchase a calling card from canteen.

What can I bring an inmate?

No items may be brought in for inmates. We have canteen available through vending machines. The inmates receive 3 meals per day but if the inmate has money on their canteen account, they may purchase pop, candy, writing materials and additional hygiene items.  If you wish to put money on their canteen account, cash may be deposited in a kiosk located in the Public Lobby of the jail.   Money orders may be mailed to the inmates. Credit cards may also be used at the kiosk or online at Inmate Canteen

Can I write to an inmate?

Yes, Staff scans all mail coming into and going out of the facility.  The letter can be addressed to an inmate using US Postal Service address:

Can I visit an inmate?

Inmates are allowed to have a list of 5 visitors of their choice (may be changed on the 1st and 15th of each month).  The Visitation Hours are as follows:

First Floor & K Dorm

Wednesday:  6:30 pm – 9 pm
Thursday:  2 pm – 4 pm

Saturday:  2 pm – 4:30 pm

L Dorm – STS & Work Release

Wednesday:  9 pm – 10 pm

Thursday:  4 pm – 4:30 pm

Saturday:  9:30 am – 11:30 am


Daily 1 pm – 4pm & 6:30 pm – 10 pm
Exception: Wednesday Evenings

Visits are 30 minutes
Visits begin on the hour and half hour
All visitors must be pre-approved by the Programming Dept.

Do you take fingerprints for job applications, adoptions, etc?

Yes, prints are done on Thursday – Sunday between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 pm at a charge of $15 (cash or check). We strongly recommend that you call first to make sure there are no conflicts. Bring a photo ID, the fingerprint cards (if provided) and cash (exact amount appreciated) or check with you.
