Important Dates That May Affect Your Taxes

2-JanAssessment date for both real and personal property and date by which personal property (manufactured homes, park trailers, travel trailers and improvements) must be classified as taxable or exempt.
15-JanLast day for owner to submit for class 1c or 4c(5) resort classification
1-FebLast day to file application for exemption from taxation with the assessor
15-FebLast day for assessor to notify ownership and city clerks of Local Board dates
March-AprilValuation notices are mailed (Must be 10 days prior to Local Board meeting)
April 1-May 31stLocal Boards of Appeal and Equalization are convened
April 15-June 30State Board of Equalization is convened
30-AprLast day to file Tax Court petition for dispute over value that affects the taxes payable in the current year
1-MayLast day to file application for Green Acres and Rural Preserve for the current assessment year
1-MayLast day to file application for class 2c Managed Forest Land
Mid MayAssessors start quintile (See Assessor page for more information on which townships are being assessed in this Quintile)
15-MayFirst half of real property taxes are due (Except for class 1c or 4c seasonal commercial and certain class 3a commercial property which has until May 31)
29-MayLast day for owners of manufactured homes assessed as personal property to establish and apply to assessor for homestead treatment
1-JunThe assessor must notify owners of their property’s contamination value by June 1 or within 30 days after the reduction in value is finally granted
JuneCounty Board of Appeal and Equalization convenes. (Any day after the second Friday for up to 10 meeting days)
1-JulCut off date for changes in taxable/exempt status to be effective for the current assessment year
1-JulLast day for senior citizens to file for property tax deferral (For last year’s tax)
1-JulLast day for taxpayers to file for Tier Linkage with the assessor for the current assessment year
15-JulLast day to mail tax statements to owners of manufactured homes
15-AugLast day for file for Property Tax Refund Return
31-AugLast day to pay first half of personal property tax on manufactured homes
1-OctLast day for taxpayer to file application for Class 1b (blind & disabled) for current assessment year
15-OctLast day to pay second half of real estate taxes unless part of the property is classified agriculture
NovemberTruth in Taxation notices are mailed to all property owners
15-NovLast day to pay second half of personal property taxes on manufactured homes and real estate taxes on class 1b,2a, and 2b agriculture properties
1-DecLast day for real property owners to establish homestead for the current year
1-DecCounty Assessor may examine appraisal records of local assessors
15-DecLast day for taxpayers to file a homestead application with the assessor for the current year’s assessment
15-DecLast day for taxpayers to file application for Special Ag with the assessor for the current year’s assessment. (For Truth in Taxation accuracy, app must be returned by October 5th)
15-DecLast day disabled Veterans can file applications for value exclusion for the current assessment year
31-DecLast day to change assessment rolls to remove property that has become tax-forfeited or add tax-forfeited property that has been repurchased or sold
